INFLUENCE OF LIQUEFACTION ON BURRIED LIFELINES WITH MANHOLES
|
´˜^i‰pjF
The objective of this study based on the experimental work is the investigation of the behaviors of buried lifelines with manholes during liquefaction for the development of preventing measures. The pipeline which is the conduit for electric power supply system is adopted as the prototype of the buried lifeline in this study. The cross section of the pipeline are 0.9 m wide and 1.2 m high and the dimensions of the manhole are 3.1 m in width, 3.7 m in height and 9.6 m in length. The value of unit weight of the pipeline is 1.9 tonf/m3 and nearly equals to the saturated unit weight of the sand layer though the unit weight of manholes is relatively smaller than the one of soil layer. In the experiment, the unit weights of a model pipeline and a model sand layer are kept same with the prototype to make clear the effect of the buoyancy during liquefaction due to the difference of the specific gravities. As the results of the experiments it is made clear that the increase of the horizontal displacements are affected by the dynamic lateral pressures and that the uplifts are observed when the manhole is subjected to the bouyancy due to the liquefaction.
