The amplification characteristics of the strong ground motions in the soft sediments of the valley of Mexico are investigated by the microtremors measured at 43 points including the observation stations of UNAM, SCT, CDA, VIV, and TAC in Mexico city. The soft sediment-filled valley of Mexico is modeled theoretically by a soft soil layer with topographic irregularity, which is expressed by a hemispherical inclusion in a semi-infinite space. The seismic ground motions in the soft soil model are estimated for the variable soil properties and soil depths. The spectral content and the amplification characteristics of the microtremors and the strong ground motions are discussed on the basis of the theoretically estimated seismic ground motions in the soft soil model. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
