An earthquake of magnitude M¡= 6.1 and M¡ =6.9 and focal depth 11.6 km. occured, in the provinces Erzurum and Kars of Eastern Turkey on October 30,1983. Its epincentral intensity was MM VIII. 1147 people died and 3350 houses were destroyed or damaged beyond repair.
