THE FULL SCALE STRUCTURAL TESTS BY THE TILTING TABLE
|
´˜^i‰pjF
Earthquake resistant tests of full scale batako houses have been carried out by using a tilting-table. The batako house is a masonry structure made of trass lime hollow blocks and is commonly used for low cost housing in Indonesia. Two types of structures, one reinforced and the other non-reinforced were tested. The static horizontal force or equivalent earthquake force is applied by the self weight of the test house as the tilting-table is tilted. The results showed that the capacity of the test house was more than O.7g for the reinforced batako house and nearly O.5g for the non-reinforced batako house. According to the Indonesian Earthquake Study, for an earthquake with a return period is 20 years, the behaviour of reinforced batako houses will be in elastic range, but that of non-reinforced batako houses will be in elastic range only in zone 4,5,6 if the safety factor is considered to be 2 for soft soil conditions. For an earthquake with a return period of 100 years the behaviour of the reinforced batako can not be evaluated in some zones because of the test capacity limitation, but the non-reinforced batako will not collapse in zone 5 & 6 ,if ,the safety factor is considered to be 2, under soft soil condition.
