RACKING TESTS OF WOODEN FRAMES WITH LATH-MORTAR FINISH AS NON-STRUCTURAL WALLS
|
´˜^i‰pjF
Lath-mortar walls or wooden frames with lath-mortar finish are widely applied to wooden structures and others in Japan. But there have been few studies [l]on the behavior of them during earthquakes. Racking tests on 32 specimens of 3 major construction types of lathmortar walls were made. The experiments were carried out under some various conditions, namely, 3 different sizes of fasteners, 3 variations of loading process, 3 conditions of restriction on mortar movement. The results are as follows: (1) The order of the ductility of the specimens by 3 construction types is sheet-lath, wire-lath and metal-lath. (2) The ductility of lath-mortar walls mainly depends on the length of the fasteners. (3) After only several loading cycles, the strength of the wall with metal-lath dropped down to 1/4 of the initial value. (4) The influence due to the size and the spacing of fasteners was not clear. (5) It is probable that un-rotatable walls would fall in smaller displacement as compared with un-restricted walls.
