A tomographic method is described for estimateing the 2-dimentional distributionof seismic velocity in rock mass. With this method, detailed images of in situ seismic belocity in the regions between pairs of adits or between surface and subsurface canbe reconstructed. The velocity destribution is caluculated from traveltimes obtained from dense fan-shooting data, and displayed as the 2-dimentional picture. The geotomographu( geophsical tomography) involves an iterated process of foregoing ray tracing named"explosion method" and velocity reconstruction as an inversion. The iterative technique of geotomography has been modified from that used in medical X-ray tomography taking account of the effect of ray bending and the restricted pattern of measuring geometry. The performance of the reconstruction algorithm is examined using artificial model data and it is then applied to the field seismic data colleced ny fan-shooting between adits of a dam site. Model calculations have recealed that the algorithm fairly reconstruct the original structre. The geotomograph for the field data is consistent with the inferrded map of classified rock mass, and suggests that geotomography may be useful in mapping the haracteristics of rock mass. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
