In order to investigate the earthquake response of thick sedimentary layers in the metropolitan area, the National. Research Center for Disaster Prevention has been successively performing the strong motion observation. For that purpose, two types of observations, I.e., the down-hole array by three three-components acceleration meters and the horizontal array by five three-components velocity meters, have been established. Three results based upon such observations will be reported in the present paper. One is the estimation of the internal damping factor of thick sedimentary layers on the Pre-Tertiary basement. A method to investigate how to decide the multiple reflection form and to estimate the wave transfer function by normally incident body wave, is introduced as the second result. The last is an application result of a frequency-wavenumber spectrum analysis to a horizontal array data, of which purpose is to estimate both the direction of approach of wave and the phase velocties to distinguish the body wave and the surface one. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
