For aseismic design of the substation equipment, it would be necessary to note the following conditions: (l) Aseismic strength of substation equipment composed of insulators of brittle materials is dependent on the maximum value of response produced during an earthquake; (2) Such equipment is a commercial product manufactured at a plant with a certain level of resistance to earthquake; (3) Substations are distributed throughout the country and are erected on the grounds of various subgrade conditions; and (4) Characteristics of a seismic wave coming to a certain point are being examined intensively, but their determination is by no means easy. This report discuses the aseismic design of substation equipment of the insulator type and proposes an aseismic design method. It is composed of: (1) Proposal of a formula of calculation of the natural frequency of the foundation-subgrade coupled system; (2) Derivation of a unique relationship between the ratio ¡/¡ and the amplification of the foundation response with the range of ¡/¡ smaller than 0.5 (¡ : natural frequency of equipment, ¡: natural frequency of the foundation-subgrade system); (3) Propriety of the aseismic design method using three cycles of a sinusoidal wave with the same frequency as the resonant frequency of the equipment as the design input; and (4) Proposal of an aseismic design of the substation equipment and its foundation. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
