A new analytical technique for the assessment of random response of the bi-linear hysteretic system with single-degree-of freedom is presented to investigate the effect of time-dependent spectra of earthquake excitation on nonlinear hysteretic response of the building structure. Earthquake excitations considered herein are random processes whose non-stationarity and nonwhite spectral characteristics are prescribed by an energy envelope function and time-dependent predominant angular frequency respectively. Numerical computations are carried out concerning to r.m.s. values of non-stationary relative displacement response of the structural system with bi-linear hysteretic characteristics by considering or neglecting time-dependence of power spectra of earthquake excitations. It is concluded, from the results, that time-dependence of power spectra of earthquake excitations can't be ingnored from the earthquake damages of the structural system point of view. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
