Main aim of this study is to find the characteristics of the rather long-period earthquake ground motions of period range of from one to ten seconds. Concerning this problem, besides the characteristics of source mechanism, deep subsoil structures of the site must be taken into consideration. By synthesizing several studies on seismic prospecting, path of seismic waves and simultaneous observation of rather long-period earthquake ground motions, sedimentary layers of about 2.3km thick of Tokyo were confirmed to have strong influences on these rather long-period earthquake ground motions. Most of all, during a shallow and near earthquake of large magnitude, major part of Tokyo Metropolitan area possess the possibility of suffering these ground motions. In conclusion, seismic zoning by deep subsurface structures as well as shallow structures, must be required strongly. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
