ON THE RESPONSE OF SLOSHING OF LIQUID IN CYLINDRICAL AND SPHERICAL STORAGES
|
´˜^i‰pjF
The most important points in the aseismic design of liquid storage are thought to be to obtain the displacement records of strong earthquakes which contain the component of long period to make clear the characteristics of the long period ground motion and to make clear the vibrational characteristics of sloshing of liquid in the liquid storage. The authors carried out a series of experiments to make clear the fundamental characteristics of sloshing effects of liquid in cylindrical and spherical storages. First, the authors carried out an experiment of observation to know the response of a cylindrical storage during natural earthquakes. It was found, from the result, that there exist the acceleration type response and the displacement type response in the response of liquid storage and that the analyses for both types of responses should be taken into account in the aseismic design of liquid storage. Next, the authors carried out an experiment and an analysis to make clear the fundamental vibrational characteristics of the spherical storage. These results were illustrated into charts which are available for the response calculation of sloshing of liquid in the aseismic design of liquid storage.
