The sheet pile foundation was first used in 1965 for the foundation of blast furnaces and began to be used for the bridge foundation in 1969. The sheet pile foundation construction method has been adopted for 40 bridges in all and it will probably be used more and more in the future. In this paper, we will firstly describe the structure of the sheet pile foundation and its characteristics in order that this foundation has been developed recently. Secondly, we will discuss the reports of the construction works which have been constructed for bridge foundations up to the present time. We classify their type, largeness, penetration length, diameter and so on. Thirdly, we will discuss the results of field vibration tests, its dynamic properties and its seismic design according to our Specification. Summarizing the dynamic properties such as resonant frequencies and damping characteristics, we compare them with those of which caisson foundation and multi-pile foundation have been constructed. From the study, we evaluate the earthquake resistance of the sheet pile foundation by comparing it with the caisson foundation and the multi-pile foundation. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
