The present paper reports a field survey, simple penetration tests and liquefaction potential evaluation on Nakanosawa elementary school site. The site sustained sand volcano, crack, subsidence, rising and lateral movement of the ground surface and bank failure, which obviously triggered off the lateral movement. The liquefaction potential evaluation revealed that the site was clearly divided into liquefied and non-liquefied zones. The thickness of the liquefied layer was estimated from 2m to 3m which arised from a loose layer, while the non-liquefied zone played an obstacle role for the lateral movement. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
