抄録（英）：
An embankment damaged during the 1993 Kuishiro-oki earthquake is investigated. The embankment was constructed in 1982 and 1985 by filling the silty soils nearby, and was completely damaged by the earthquake. Both slope stability analysis and effective stress dynamic response analysis are conducted. The safety factor against slope failure decreases to 0.78-1.3 during the earthquake from its pie-earthquake value of 1.5-2.3. Liquefaction occurred about 16 seconds at the fill under the water table. The generation of excess pore water pressure decreases the safe factor a against slope failure, which result in significant damage.
