An approximate procedure for analysis of dynamic interaction of liquid-tank-soil system related to horizontal earthquake excitations by Rayleigh-Ritz method is presented. The impulsive liquid pressure is represented as the sum of pressures induced by the elastic deformations, sway motion and rigid motion. The foundation under the rigid base is assumed to be elastic halfspace. The interaction forces is considered as generalized forces in the Lagrange equations. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the effects of radiation damping in the halfspace.
