A newly developed elastic-plastic constitutive model for sandy soils is presented. It specifies the stress-strain characteristics of sand through an index parameter that captures the combined influence of the density and confining stress on the sand behaviour. The model accurately describes monotonic and cyclic sand response typical for both contractive and dilative sands including liquefaction, limited contractive flow and cyclic mobility. Yet, it models sand behaviour with a single set of model parameters regardless of the initial density or confining stress of the sand. Model prediction of the response of a uniform sand layer observed in a seismic centrifuge test is presented. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
