For lifeline systems commposed of a few kinds of structures, a method to ecaluate the reliability of the system is proposed using two functions; one of them represents the reliability of each structure, and the other represents the redundancy due to the configuration of the system. The characteristics of these functions are analyzed and examined. Then,, for the system composed of one kind of structues, a sefety index of the system is proposed by the use of mean values and the standard deviations of these functions. Applications of these methods to simple network systems are made. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
