In order to get a good understanding on the problem of hydrodynamic pressure generated by the vertical component of a propagating earthquake wave,for various water bodies of different depthes,inputing EL-Centro and other actual earthquake waves,the effects of propagating direction and velocity on the hydrodynamic pressure as well as the variation with water depth were examined with FDM method.The fluctuation laws are to be given.The results of analysis indicate that the hydrodynamic pressure will be significantly influenced by the propagating direction and velocity of a earthquake wave.And the vertical component of a earthquake wave can generate big hydrodynamic pressure on dam face.
