Effect of earthquake on driving of vehicle based on questionnaire survey

Vibration characteristics of motor vehicles and driver's reaction during an earthquake are studied throught questionnaire to the drivers who were in driving in a region with the JMA seismic intensity of V during the Nihon-kai-chubu Earthquake of 1983 and the Chiba-ken-oki Earthquake of 1987. Emphasis is placed on driver's recognition of earthquake, the reason why drivers recognized the earthquake and driving situation during the earthquake. It is concluded from the study that degree of driver's recognition of an earthquake highly depends on driving situation.
