To observe how dilatancy of rock localizes before faulting, we attemptedto map the P wave velocity field (seismic profile) of some sliced plane of the specimen by analyzing a numberof the first arrival times. This technique, termedseismic CT, is useful to study the process of dilatancy localization, because Pwave velocity is influenced by the extent of dilatancy. Here, we present the results of reconstruction made on the specimen of Ohsima granite within the plane parallel to the loading axis. The specimen was once compressed beyond the maximum load carrying capability under uniaxial conditions.
